Self defence is one of the prime reason parents introduce their children to martial arts. At Aikido London, we teach effective self defence techniques which begin with skills aimed towards avoidance and evasion of an altercation, as well as how to neutralize. In this respect, Aikido is very different from many other forms of training.
In Aikido we strive to work in cooperation with a partner, still employing effective technique against an energetic and realistic attack, yet doing so by blending with the attack and redirecting its energy back to the attacker.
Aikido training is mental as well as physical, emphasizing the ability to relax the mind and body even under the stress of dangerous situations. This is necessary to enable the practitioner to perform the bold enter-and-blend movements that underlie aikido techniques, wherein an attack is met with confidence and directness
